Cosa più o meno sta succedendo in Italia: il malsano egoismo/ What's, more or less, going on in Italy: the unhealthy selfishness

Tanta gente su Twitter (che ora sarebbe X) si sta rendendo conto di un determinato fenomeno: le campagne elettorali sono diventate "più stupide", a detta loro.

Io ritengo che le campagne elettorali in realtà siano spesso "stupide" da sempre, ma il motivo è che il linguaggio della comunicazione politica deve fare breccia sull'elettore medio, e si sa che quando si parla di "media" spesso si coinvolge una certa scarsa tendenza a un pensiero sistematico e rigoroso (spesso disonesto). In poche parole, le campagne elettorali si adeguano a quella che è la mente delle persone medie e mediocri: slogan semplici e promesse da non mantenere per prendere alla gola chi non ci crede più ma che ci spera ancora, irrazionalmente. 

In effetti, negli ultimi tempi c'è  stata una certa regressione nella comunicazione politica in generale. Se regredisce quest'ultima, però, vuol dire che è già regredito un po' tutto il sistema, e infatti la situazione odierna non è altro che in continuità con ormai diversi anni di crisi perenne, ormai strutturale, dell'economia mondiale o se non altro di quella cosiddetta occidentale. 

In Italia, dove purtroppo esiste una grossa divisione tra Nord e Sud, inevitabilmente la crisi è ancora più grave nella parte centro-meridionale del Paese. I motivi sono da ricercare nell'eredità socio-culturale e occorre tornare indietro di secoli, e un giorno cercherò di parlare in dettaglio della materia, dopo accurata ricerca. Per ora, mi limito a restituire, basandomi sul sacrosanto sano principio di realtà, quale credo sia un po' la situazione che vedo in questo piccolo antro del mondo.

Il centro-sud Italia è fondamentalmente una macroarea dannata dal malcostume, che come si sa si nutre delle crisi, invece di esserne intaccato. In effetti, qualsiasi polarizzazione situazionale non farà altro che accentuarlo: se si sta benissimo, il malsano egoismo nei momenti di prosperità diviene occasione di procacciare ricchezze a più non posso, per farne sfoggio e disprezzare e sottomettere chi ha di meno mentre nei momenti di crisi...idem.

Quello che succede quindi è che siamo come al solito un posto dove manca quasi totalmente la cultura civica, l'etica del lavoro, la solidarietà, l'amicizia disinteressata (parlo degli over 30, ma spesso avviene anche prima), la volontà in generale di fare del bene al prossimo, e abbiamo invece corruzione, collusione, familismo amorale, relazioni malsane, ignoranza, come detto malsano egoismo e tanta, tanta presunzione e pretenziosità. 

Quindi, non è una cosa che succede ORA, ma succede da SEMPRE. Quello che cambia è che adesso siamo totalmente in preda a una situazione quasi apocalittica, perché tale è, tra questioni economiche e incidenti imprevedibili vari, in cui sembra che gli schemi stiano saltando mentre in realtà si ribadiscono sempre di più. Siamo in preda a una grande psicosi collettiva, dove le persone stanno cercando di salvare "capre e cavoli" e quindi di correre ai ripari senza scrupoli. 

Si tratta, come detto, di un'accentuazione del malsano egoismo, che nelle aree di grave malcostume e di grave inciviltà non fa altro che distruggere quel poco di senso di progresso (perché il futuro è come se non esistesse e se c'è si crede sia destinato a portare peggioramenti) e di collettività (perché a maggior ragione bisogna pensare a sé stessi e alla propria famiglia e basta) e anche di legalità (perché se cerco lavoro non mi frega di fare carte false o di farmi raccomandare a scapito di altri). 

Nel malsano egoismo iniziamo a sguazzare ancora di più poi nell'ipocrisia del condannare le furbizie del prossimo mentre ci si prepara a fare tutte le furbizie necessarie, forse anche peggio del prossimo e iniziamo anche, se riusciamo nell'intento, a sentirci meglio di quando eravamo più sodali, più devoti alla legalità, più corretti.

Se una crisi mette in difficoltà la comunità, il malcostume la fa morire. Non si può parlare di comunità quando c'è il malcostume, e tutti gli sforzi dovranno essere orientati, da ora in avanti, a costruire un nuovo senso di civiltà.

I believe that electoral campaigns have always been "stupid" in reality. Still, the reason is that the language of political communication must resonate with the average voter. We know that when we talk about "media" we often involve a certain poor tendency towards systematic and rigorous thinking. In short, electoral campaigns adapt to the minds of average and mediocre people: simple slogans and promises not to be kept to seize those who no longer believe in them by the throat but who still hope for them, irrationally.

Indeed, there has been some regression in political communication in general recently. If the latter regress, however, it means that the entire system has already regressed somewhat, and in fact, the current situation is nothing other than in continuity with several years of perennial, now structural, crisis of the world economy or if not different than the so-called Western one.

In Italy, where unfortunately there is a large division between North and South, the crisis is inevitably even more serious in the central-southern part of the country. The reasons are to be found in the socio-cultural heritage and we need to go back centuries, and one day I will try to talk about the matter in detail, after careful research. For now, I limit myself to reporting, based on the sacrosanct healthy principle of reality, what I believe is the situation I see in this little cave of the world.

Central-southern Italy is fundamentally a macro-area cursed by bad habits, which as we know feeds on crises, rather than being affected by them. In fact, any situational polarization will only accentuate it: if one feels very well, unhealthy selfishness in moments of prosperity becomes an opportunity to procure wealth as much as one can, to show off it and despise and subjugate those who have less while in moments of crisis ...idem.

What happens, therefore, is that, as usual, we are a place where civic culture, work ethic, solidarity, and disinterested friendship (I'm talking about those over 30, but it often happens even earlier) are almost totally lacking, the will, in general, to do good to others, and instead we have corruption, collusion, amoral familism, ignorance, as mentioned unhealthy selfishness and lots and lots of presumption and pretentiousness.

So, it's not something that happens NOW, but it's been happening FOREVER. What changes is that now we are totally in the grip of an almost apocalyptic situation, because that is what it is, between economic issues and various unforeseeable incidents, in which it seems that the patterns are falling apart while in reality they are reiterated more and more. We are in the grip of a great collective psychosis, where people are trying to save "goats and cabbages" and therefore run for cover without scruples.

It is, as mentioned, an accentuation of unhealthy selfishness, which in areas of serious malpractice and serious incivility does nothing but destroy that little sense of progress (because the future is as if it did not exist and if it does exist, it believes it is destined to lead to worsening) and of community (because all the more reason you have to think about yourself and your family and that's it) and also of legality (because if I'm looking for work I don't care about making false documents or getting recommended to the detriment of others).

In unhealthy selfishness, we begin to wallow even more than in the hypocrisy of condemning the cunning of others. At the same time, we prepare to do all the necessary cunning, perhaps even worse than the neighbour and we also begin, if we succeed, to feel better than when we were closer, more devoted to legality, more correct.

If a crisis causes difficulties for a community, malpractice causes it to die. We cannot talk about community when there is malpractice, and all efforts must be directed, from now on, towards building a new sense of civil.
